Rear extension to create light and spacious family room

Brief

To create a multifunctioning family room off of the kitchen / dining space connecting into the garden. Shape Design took the project from the measured survey stage through to obtaining the necessary approvals such as planning and building regulations liaising and working closely with all the relevant parties along the way.

Aesthetics & design features

The ceiling was vaulted internally with a partial glazed gable to the end elevation and bifold doors to the flank opening onto the patio area. The extension was finished in brickwork to match the existing including the differing colour plinth in order to tie into the house. 

Construction

A traditional build including insulated cavity walls and suspended beam and block floors. The project included multiple construction challenges including the need for pile foundations due to the ground conditions and careful design due to close prioximity of a public sewer.
